YSL Candy Glaze Lipsticks

YSL Rouge Volupte Candy Glaze lipstick review

Lipsticks are my kryptonite. I find them to be the most powerful and versatile piece of kit in the makeup bag. A lipstick can make you go from feeling crappy to a million dollars in the space of just one swipe. A makeup look can be transformed from casual to evening glam in an instant and I just don’t think anything else has the power to change your look or mood as quickly.

So why have I chosen to talk about YSL’s Candy Glaze lipsticks? Well I came across them on Tik Tok and saw lots of beautiful women trying this lipstick. The beautiful colours and shiny gloss seemed to instantly elevated everyone into glamorous goddesses and it has been a really long time since I’ve been so captivated by a lipstick and sooo pleased after purchasing.

Sadly the shade that caught my attention the most, is one I cannot seem to get hold of for love nor money at the moment but I did pick up two that are absolutely gorgeous.

What really got me about that lipstick shade I haven’t been able to get hold of, was that the lipstick appeared to look as if it could be worn without a lip liner! As a woman with a deeper skin tone, I dare leave the house without a lip liner in tow because if I need to top up my lipstick, I can almost guarantee that my lipstick WILL NOT WORK without a lip liner unless it is a darker shade. So when I saw YSL’s candy glaze in the shade 14 scenic brown on chocolate skin tones working beautifully without a liner, the obsession started and I knew I had to get my hands on these lipsticks.

I have been on the hunt for a glossy natural looking lipstick that can be worn without a lip liner for a while now. The only thing that has ever come close was Mac’s Touch lipstick, however after re-purchasing a few times, I was looking for something new and fresh and just didn’t feel that it was quite hitting the brief as much as I wanted it to anymore. For me, I want a lipstick that can be worn without a lip liner, which I can throw on any time of the day with whatever outfit and look effortlessly chic.

At the moment, I am seeing a lot of bold lip liners paired with lipsticks (which I love and wear very frequently) but it is also nice to have a lipstick that quietly sings in the background and holds the rest of the face together without bringing obvious drama. I will continue to try and get me hands on the shade 14 and the other two shades YSL came out with this year – 13 and 15. They only seem available in the US at the moment with the only exception to this for the UK being Sephora, however they seem forever out of stock. Boo 🙁

So what’s all the hype about?

The lipsticks are beautifully pigmented, with a high shine and great lasting power. The candy glaze formula has the pigment of a lipstick, the shine of a gloss and the comfort of a balm. There are bold reds, subtle pinks and beautiful brown shades to choose from, allowing you to a bring the drama or be your natural best self for a more every day look. These lipsticks are extremely versatile and well worth the money.

The formula is super creamy and quite thick with a luxurious feel. It does not feel drying in any way on the lips, which is great with winter coming up to avoid chapped lips. Ingredients include pomegranate extract, cold pressed mango oil, vitamin E and hyaluronic acid. These ingredients offer hydration and moisture, making these products dual use for being a treatment as well as adding colour to the lips.

Something to note:

This lipstick has a balm formula and should be used with this in mind. The first thing you notice when using the lipstick is that it clicks when you turn the lipstick upwards. This is to help you not to twist up the lipstick too much. Do not apply too much pressure as the balm formula will squeeze under pressure and make it difficult to achieve a defined lip application, so take time and only twist up the lipstick in small amounts. Better to be safe then sorry!

I have two shades: 03 cacao no boundary and 04 nude pleasure.

03 Cacao No Boundary is a dark brown shade with a hint of burgundy. I was slightly unsure when I first  saw it but my goodness, when done with makeup, it looks beautiful. I had a lot of compliments when I wore this lipstick for the first time,  it was quite nice to wear as it’s darker and more daring than a nude, but still wearable for the daytime. This was an easy colour to wear and worked well for a day in the office followed by evening drinks, it really had the perfect balance of drama and chic in a tube! Top tip: wear a slightly dark blush or layer up on your regular one to stand up to the lipstick. I promise you it will not make you look like a clown but instead it helps to keep dimension to the face and avoid the cheeks looking washed out or flat.

04 Nude pleasure – now this is just one of those perfect nudes that you do not see coming! It is a brown based nude that I think works well on every skin colour. This is perfect work or brunch and works well with lighter makeup when you are going for a ‘less is more’/’clean girl’ look. Equally, if you are planning on doing dark/dramatic eyes, this lipstick would work well to pull the look together and compliment rather than compete or clash with the eyes.

Hopefully I can get my hands on the other lipsticks and will update this post. In the meantime, if you are in the UK, these two shades are fabulous.

Last top tip, if you go in store and can’t see the candy glaze lipsticks on the counter – still ask if it’s in stock. I did just that and was able to pick up two shades! The lipsticks were not on display because YSL hadn’t sent over display sample lipsticks, so it doesn’t hurt to ask!

Please let me know if you have any and what your thoughts are on the candy glaze lipsticks or if you have been able to buy shades 13, 14 or 15 in the UK!

Take care!
